The Centers For Medicare And Medicaid Services

Under the umbrella of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has the day-to-day responsibility of administering the Medicare program to over 40 million beneficiaries in the United States and the US territories (Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam, and America Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands). First Coast Service Options (FCSO) is contracted with CMS to serve as the Fiscal Intermediary (FI) for Florida. An FI performs Medicare claims processing and benefit payment functions to institutional providers in Part A and Part B of the program. FCSO is also contracted to serve as a Carrier for Florida and Connecticut. A Carrier performs Medicare claims processing and benefit payment functions to providers in Part B of the program. As a function of our contract with CMS, FCSO processes more than eight percent of the nation's claims.

Agency For Health Care Administration

Working to improve access to affordable, quality health care to all Floridians, the state Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) administers Florida’s $16.6 billion Medicaid program, licenses and regulates more than 32,000 health care providers and 37 health maintenance organizations and publishes health care data and statistics. FCSO provides audit services to AHCA, Florida's Medicaid agency, by auditing costs reported by hospitals.

Federal and State Elected Officials

FCSO works hard to inform Florida and Connecticut’s elected officials concerning changes in Medicare policy so they can better support and educate their constituents.
